This is Gil Poiares-Oliveira's weblog.

Me

I'm Gil. I'm a Biologist based in Lisbon, the capital city of Portugal, a country located in the Iberian Peninsula, in Southwestern Europe. I was born and raised in the city and have lived here all my life. I've got a Bachelors in Biology, with a concentration in Molecular Biology and Genetics, and a minor in Informatics (i.e. Computer Science) from the University of Lisbon. I've also got a Masters degree in Biotechnology form NOVA University Lisbon. I'm currently working as a research scientist at my alma matter. Needless to say, I find scientific research fascinating, and love working with others to discover new things. I also enjoy sharing my and other peoples' discoveries with others, specially if they have no scientific background whatsoever. I also really enjoy politics. Back in my bachelor's I used to be a part of the Students' Union and got very involved in education policy. Although I no longer do that, I am a member of a centre political party. Politics can be extremely divisive so it doesn't really matter which one.
